ACCOMODATION ON KILIMANJARO

Kilimanjaro hiking offers two distinct accommodation styles based on the route you choose. The experience varies depending on whether you opt for the Marangu route or one of the other routes available. Understanding these differences can help you plan your adventure more effectively and ensure a comfortable and enjoyable journey up Africa’s tallest peak.

Tented Accommodation (Non-Marangu Routes)

For those who choose any route other than the Marangu route—such as the Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, or Shira routes—you will be staying in tents throughout your hike. This camping experience is an integral part of the adventure and adds a sense of immersion in the natural beauty of the mountain. Our team of skilled porters is responsible for carrying all camping equipment, including your tent, from the start of your hike to the summit and back down again.

Each day, when you reach the designated campsite, your porters will set up the tents, ensuring they are ready for your arrival after a long day of trekking. The tents are sturdy and designed to withstand the varying weather conditions that Kilimanjaro can present, from warm, sunny days to cold, windy nights. After a night of rest, the porters will dismantle the tents in the morning, pack them up, and carry them to the next campsite, where the process will be repeated. This seamless service allows you to focus on your hike and conserve energy for the ascent.

Huts on the Marangu Route

The Marangu route, often referred to as the “Coca-Cola” route, is unique in that camping is not permitted. Instead, hikers on this route stay in mountain huts that are spaced out along the trail. These huts offer a more comfortable and sheltered accommodation option, with several guests typically sharing a room. The huts are equipped with bunk beds and mattresses, providing a more restful experience than tent camping. However, the availability of these huts is limited, so it is essential to book your spot well in advance to secure accommodation for your trek.

The huts on the Marangu route are a popular choice for those who prefer a bit more comfort and are less inclined towards camping. They also offer a chance to socialize with fellow hikers in a more communal setting, which can enhance the overall experience of climbing Kilimanjaro.

Whether you choose the tented experience of the non-Marangu routes or the more structured accommodation of the Marangu route, both options provide unique ways to experience the majesty of Kilimanjaro. The choice ultimately depends on your personal preferences and the type of adventure you seek. Regardless of the route you select, our team is dedicated to making your journey safe, comfortable, and unforgettable.
